Top End Building

We’ve been going to town on the top end of the engine (mostly Craig with minimal assistance from me).

We’re a little stuck right now as the alternator is in the way of the carburetor sitting properly in place. The engine in our splitty has about a two inch spacer between the manifold and the carb, but we can’t seem to find another one of those. Any ideas, suggestions, thoughts?

Alternator? If you didn't mean to type "generator" and the engine's been converted to an alternator at some point, that may be your problem there. Sometimes aftermarket upgrades don't take the geometry of existing systems into account.
My $0.02.

If I'd looked more closely at the second picture I'd've answered my own question: it has been converted to an alternator.
Wolfsburg West sells this spacer to go with their generator->alternator conversion kit:

Excellent, thanks for your help--we may end up going that route.

Craig - Hi
Did you get the spacing figured out?

I have a Alternator on my Type 1 motor also - but I have dual carbs.
(but no spacer)

Good Luck!

I think we've got a solution figured out--we have two 3/8 inch spacers that bring the height up enough that the carb clears the alternator. I'm constantly amazed how no two engines seem to go together exactly the same!
